Spring Forward: What to expect from time change!

When parents learn that time change is approaching, they are often fearful. For our little ones, Spring is the easier of the two time changes. For us adults, this time change is a little harder for us. On Sunday morning, have your have your favorite coffee on hand and ready to go!

How To Adjust Baby’s Schedule

Overall, the easiest approach is the quickest once. Slow and gradual approaches do not work well and often prolong the process. We recommend that you just dive into the new time!

Step 1: Put baby/toddler down at normal bedtime on Saturday night

Step 2: Reset all your clocks and set your alarm for Sunday morning. Setting your alarm is important because your body will want to sleep to the new, later time.

Step 3: Wake your baby/toddler at your new desired wake up time.

Step 4: Follow the clock for the remainder of the day. If your baby is on set nap times, stick to those set nap times using the new nap time. If your baby follows wake windows, follow those wake windows starting with the time you woke up your baby.

Other Things to consider

During this time change, black out curtains are VERY important for your bedtime routine. The evenings will say bright later, so having blackout curtains will help your baby reset their circadian rhythm. Overall, it may take your baby 2-4 days to adjust. Give yourself and your baby some grace, and know that things will get better soon!
